An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced two men arrested by the DSS to death after convicting them for the kidnapping of an NYSC staff member.

An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced two men to death after finding them guilty of kidnapping a staff member of the National Youth Service Corps.

The two convicts, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, were arrested by the Department of State Services and later prosecuted over the abduction of Omoboade Adesina, an NYSC staff member, in Ekiti State. Reports said the kidnapping took place on April 22, 2022, and the matter proceeded to trial at the High Court in Ado-Ekiti.

In delivering judgment, the court held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The ruling brings a legal conclusion to a case that began as a security operation and moved through prosecution to capital punishment.

The significance of the judgment lies not only in the sentence itself but in the path the case took through the justice system: from arrest by the DSS to conviction in a state high court. It also returns attention to the continued use of kidnapping prosecutions as a test of how far security and judicial institutions can move from arrest to final judgment.

For now, the official position is that the two men have been convicted and sentenced to death by the Ekiti State High Court for the kidnapping of the NYSC staff member.
