Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said investigations by security and anti-corruption agencies cleared him of wrongdoing over allegations surrounding a purported investment agency linked to the Presidency.
Gbajabiamila made the statement on Saturday while speaking in Lagos, amid continuing attention on the investigation into the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
He said investigations conducted by the Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) did not establish wrongdoing on his part.
Investigation Into Purported Agency
The controversy centres on an organisation presented as the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
Earlier findings by a House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the matter said it found no evidence that Gbajabiamila approved, established or participated in the activities of the purported organisation.
The committee said evidence before it showed that the Chief of Staff had instead alerted relevant security and investigative agencies after concerns about the organisation were brought to his attention.
According to the committee, Gbajabiamila communicated with relevant agencies, including the Police, DSS and other investigative authorities, after concerns were raised about alleged fraudulent activities and the misuse of government-related materials.
Gbajabiamila Defends His Actions
Gbajabiamila said the investigations had cleared him and that he would remain focused on his official responsibilities.
He also criticised what he described as attempts to pressure the Presidency into reaching a conclusion before investigations were completed.
The controversy has highlighted concerns around the use of government names, offices and institutional identities by purported organisations seeking to attract investment or public recognition.
The House committee’s findings and the statements from Gbajabiamila provide the latest developments in the matter, although public discussion surrounding the purported agency has continued.
