A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Monica Yahaya Kaltho, has withdrawn her court case challenging the party’s governorship primary and pledged full support for the PDP’s candidate, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, describing the move as a sacrifice made in the interest of party unity ahead of the 2027 election.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State appears to have taken a significant step toward internal reconciliation after one of its aggrieved governorship aspirants, Monica Yahaya Kaltho, formally withdrew her legal challenge against the party’s governorship primary.
Kaltho also announced that she would now work for the success of the PDP and its governorship candidate, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Explaining her decision, Kaltho said she acted after extensive consultations and an appeal from former Gombe State governor and PDP leader, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
According to her, Dankwambo urged all party members to place the unity of the PDP above personal political ambition as preparations for the 2027 election intensify.
She said she accepted the advice because preserving the party’s cohesion was more important than continuing the legal battle.
Kaltho said every PDP member should remain focused on delivering good leadership for the people of Gombe State rather than prolonging internal disputes.
She pledged to mobilise support for Pantami’s governorship ambition, insisting that reconciliation within the party would strengthen its chances of challenging the ruling APC in the next election.
Following the announcement, Prof. Pantami reportedly visited Kaltho at her residence to personally appreciate her decision.
The former Minister of Communications described her action as an act of statesmanship and maturity, saying it demonstrated a commitment to the collective interest of the PDP and the development of Gombe State.
He also reiterated his commitment to running an inclusive campaign capable of uniting members across different tendencies within the party.
Kaltho’s decision comes amid broader reconciliation efforts within the Gombe PDP following disagreements over the party’s governorship primary.
Political observers believe the withdrawal of the lawsuit removes a major internal distraction and could strengthen the opposition’s preparations as campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
While political competition in Gombe is expected to intensify in the coming months, Kaltho’s withdrawal signals a renewed effort by the PDP to close ranks before the 2027 contest. Whether the reconciliation translates into electoral success will ultimately be determined by voters at the polls.
