Oluremi Tinubu said she was impressed by the transformation of the Abuja City Gate and praised the FCT administration for the project.

She described the remodelled landmark as an important national gateway that now provides a more welcoming entrance to Nigeria’s capital.

The First Lady said the project demonstrated what could be achieved when abandoned or neglected public spaces were properly developed.

She also told Wike that posterity would judge him positively for his contribution to the development of the Federal Capital Territory.

City Gate and Green Nigeria Challenge

The First Lady linked the transformation to the objectives of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Green Nigeria Challenge.

The initiative is designed to encourage young Nigerians to transform degraded public spaces, dumpsites and abandoned areas into parks, gardens and other environmentally friendly facilities.

Oluremi Tinubu expressed disappointment that no state participated in the community category of the competition despite a ₦50 million prize being available.

She encouraged state governors’ wives to mobilise young people to participate in environmental clubs and sustainability initiatives.

Wike credits First Lady

Wike, in his remarks, attributed the City Gate transformation partly to the First Lady’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

He said her advocacy had inspired the FCT administration’s participation in the Green Nigeria Initiative.

The Abuja City Gate transformation has become one of the visible projects associated with the current FCT administration and has generated significant public attention.
