Islamic cleric and National Chairman of the Jama’atu Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jama’ah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahya Jingir, has reaffirmed his support for Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jingir’s position comes amid a growing controversy over recent comments attributed to him concerning Christians and the political representation of Muslims in Nigeria.
The cleric has faced criticism from Christian groups and other Nigerians who described some of his recent remarks as inflammatory and divisive.
However, Jingir has maintained that his position is informed by what he described as years of suffering experienced by Muslims.
According to reports, he insisted that he would not withdraw his support for a Muslim-Muslim ticket despite the backlash generated by his comments.
Jingir has also argued that Muslims should continue to support political arrangements that advance their interests ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
His comments have intensified the ongoing debate over religion, political representation and the possibility of another Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2027.
The controversy has already drawn responses from political figures, including Rabiu Kwankwaso, who criticised the push for another Muslim-Muslim ticket and argued that political leadership should reflect religious balance.
