The electoral commission says it has launched an investigation following the publication of candidate-related information.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced an investigation into allegations of unauthorised access to its Continuous Voter Registration database.

The move follows the publication of information relating to a candidate involved in a recent political party primary election in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the commission, the investigation is aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged access and determining whether any breach occurred.

The development places attention on the integrity of electoral data management and the safeguards surrounding voter registration records.

INEC has not yet announced the outcome of the investigation.
