The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says Nigeria’s national register of voters has risen to more than 103 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figure during a strategic engagement with editors in Abuja.

The commission said the increase followed the conclusion of the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise and a subsequent biometric clean-up of the preliminary register.

According to INEC, the CVR exercise produced more than 10.7 million new registrations, with the commission subsequently carrying out an Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) process and the public display of the preliminary register for claims and objections.

The latest figure represents the pool of registered voters ahead of the 2027 elections. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every person currently on the register will ultimately vote, as election participation depends on individual voter turnout and compliance with electoral requirements.

The development comes as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the commission expected to continue updating stakeholders on logistics, voter registration and other aspects of the electoral process.
