The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned universities and other tertiary institutions against issuing official admission letters to candidates, stressing the need to follow the prescribed national admissions process.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, reportedly gave the warning while receiving a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, during a courtesy visit.
According to the report, Aina expressed concern that some candidates could regard admission documents issued by their institutions as genuine confirmation of admission without verifying their status through the appropriate channels.
The warning comes as prospective students across Nigeria continue to navigate the admission process for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Candidates Urged to Verify Admission Status
The report states that JAMB emphasised its statutory role in coordinating admissions and issuing official admission documentation under the national framework.
The Board’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) provides a platform through which candidates can check and manage their admission status.
Prospective students are therefore advised to confirm their admission offers through JAMB’s official platforms and follow the applicable procedures before relying on admission documents.
Candidates should also exercise caution when dealing with unofficial communications or documents that have not been verified.
Implications for Tertiary Institutions
The warning places renewed emphasis on compliance with national admission procedures and the need for clear communication between institutions and prospective students.
Universities and other tertiary institutions must ensure that their admission practices align with the applicable regulatory requirements and that candidates understand the status of any offer they receive.
Confusion over admission documentation can cause considerable anxiety for students, particularly those making arrangements for registration, accommodation and the commencement of academic activities.
JAMB’s position underscores the importance of transparent admission procedures and accurate information for candidates seeking entry into higher education.
Prospective students who are uncertain about their admission status should consult JAMB’s official website and CAPS platform for current guidance.
