All Progressives Congress aspirant Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor) has stepped down from the 2027 Lagos governorship contest, citing party unity and backing the growing endorsement of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jandor announced his decision shortly after purchasing nomination forms, stating that his withdrawal was influenced by recent political developments within the party, including the endorsement of Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus candidate by key APC stakeholders and party leadership.
In a statement, he said the move was not driven by weakness but by a commitment to party unity and discipline, stressing the need to align with the direction of national and state leadership.
The endorsement of Hamzat, reportedly backed by President Bola Tinubu and other influential party figures, has reshaped the Lagos APC succession race, with several aspirants stepping aside in support of the emerging consensus arrangement.
Political observers note that the development further consolidates Hamzat’s position as a leading figure in the party’s succession plan for Lagos State, ahead of the 2027 governorship election cycle.
Jandor, a former PDP governorship candidate who defected to the APC, had only recently joined the race before internal consultations and endorsements began shifting momentum within the party structure.
The Lagos APC succession process has historically been influenced by strong internal consensus-building, particularly through party leadership structures and key political stakeholders.
The withdrawal leaves Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the frontrunner in the unfolding APC governorship realignment in Lagos, as the party continues its preparations for the 2027 elections.
