The Kano State Government is set to begin medical screening for 3,000 prospective couples participating in its planned mass wedding programme, with the exercise scheduled to commence on Monday.
The screening process is being coordinated through the Kano State Hisbah Board as part of preparations for the government-sponsored initiative involving couples drawn from multiple local government areas across the state.
Authorities said the exercise will include compulsory medical tests for intending couples before the marriages are formally conducted. The move forms part of the broader administrative and health procedures attached to the programme.
The planned mass wedding initiative once again places attention on Kano’s long-running model of state-supported marriage programmes, which officials say are designed to support intending couples who may face financial difficulties.
Beyond the ceremonial aspect, the medical screening phase reflects the government’s attempt to introduce structured health checks into the process before the weddings are concluded.
Officials of the Hisbah Board said prospective participants are expected to report for the screening exercise beginning Monday as preparations continue.
