The Lagos State Government says it has disbursed N168.2 billion to more than 48,000 retirees under the state’s Contributory Pension Scheme since 2007.
The government disclosed the figure on Tuesday while responding to concerns raised by retirees over pension payments.
According to the state, the Lagos State Pension Commission, LASPEC, has made the cumulative payments to retirees since the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The government also said it had paid N92 billion in accrued rights to more than 25,000 retirees between May 2019 and August 2026.
The disclosure comes against the backdrop of protests by some retirees over outstanding pension-related obligations.
The state government maintained that the welfare of retired public servants remains a priority, while providing details of payments made under its pension programmes.
