The Lagos State Government says it will deploy additional traffic personnel and strengthen enforcement along key port corridors following an assessment of persistent traffic-management challenges.
The Lagos State Government is set to intensify enforcement along the Apapa and Lekki port corridors following a review of traffic conditions and the effectiveness of existing measures.
The decision was announced at a strategy meeting chaired by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, at the Ministry of Transportation on Tuesday.
Giwa said the assessment had identified gaps in the current enforcement system and that the government would adjust its strategy to address them.
The ministry is expected to deploy additional traffic-management personnel to the Lekki Port corridor to improve compliance with the E-Call-Up system for articulated vehicles.
The objective is to improve the movement of trucks into and out of the ports while reducing illegal parking and congestion along surrounding roads.
The Apapa and Lekki port corridors are among Lagos’ most commercially important transport routes, connecting major maritime facilities to the wider road network.
Persistent truck congestion in the areas has historically affected commuters, businesses and logistics operators, with authorities repeatedly introducing traffic-management measures to improve the flow of heavy-duty vehicles.
The latest strategy review suggests the state government intends to focus not only on deploying personnel but also on closing gaps in compliance and enforcement.
The government said the measures are intended to facilitate smoother port operations while reducing the disruption caused by improperly parked or poorly managed articulated trucks.
