Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has inaugurated a campaign council comprising more than 600 members for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami, who is also the ADC governorship candidate in Kebbi, inaugurated the campaign structure on Wednesday as the party began strengthening its grassroots machinery across the state.
The former minister charged members of the council to work collectively, prioritise reconciliation and build a disciplined political organisation capable of reaching voters across Kebbi’s 21 local government areas.
He said the campaign council was not established merely as a collection of political appointments but as a coordinated structure for advancing the interests of the ADC and its candidates.
The council includes members drawn from different communities, local government areas, senatorial districts and political backgrounds, reflecting the party’s attempt to establish a broad-based campaign organisation.
Malami emphasised that the council would work for all ADC candidates rather than concentrate exclusively on his governorship ambition.
The structure is expected to coordinate campaigns for candidates contesting governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats.
He also called for unity and reconciliation within the party, stressing the importance of presenting the ADC as a collective political movement rather than a platform centred on individual candidates.
The inauguration comes as political parties begin expanding their structures ahead of the 2027 elections, with campaigns now formally underway.
For the ADC, Kebbi presents an important test of its ability to convert political realignments and opposition sentiment into a functioning grassroots organisation.
The size of the newly inaugurated council also signals an attempt to establish a substantial mobilisation network across the state.
Malami’s political profile adds weight to the structure, given his previous position as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and his current role as the party’s governorship candidate in Kebbi.
However, the effectiveness of the council will ultimately depend on its ability to translate its organisational strength into sustained grassroots engagement and electoral support.
