The NDC presidential candidate announced former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential choice.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has officially named former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The announcement came after Obi was affirmed as the party’s presidential candidate during the NDC convention held in Abuja. The former Anambra State governor emerged as the sole aspirant for the party’s presidential ticket.

With the development, Obi and Kwankwaso will lead the NDC’s presidential campaign ahead of the next general election, bringing together two influential political figures who were among the leading opposition candidates during the 2023 presidential race.

Party stakeholders described the alliance as a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 polls, with the NDC positioning itself as a major opposition platform.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were reportedly present during the party’s activities in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

The announcement is expected to shape political conversations in the months ahead as parties continue preparations for the next election cycle.
