Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that the United States Government has reached out to him following his public appeal to US President Donald Trump over the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Davido disclosed the development on social media on Tuesday, shortly after publicly calling on Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the August 15 election.
The singer wrote: “Dem don reach out ooooo,” suggesting that his appeal had received a response from American authorities.
The development comes after Davido published a message addressed directly to Trump, titled “A Call for Attention to President Donald Trump.”
In the message, the singer raised concerns about tension surrounding the election and warned about the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.
Davido urged the US government and international community to monitor developments surrounding the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters.
He said residents of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully and without fear.
The singer’s intervention has attracted significant attention because of his family connection to the election. Davido is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the Accord Party.
He has also been involved in youth mobilisation efforts for the governor’s campaign.
Davido’s latest intervention follows an earlier warning that he would seek Trump’s intervention if anything went wrong during the election.
His appeal has generated debate in Nigeria, with supporters arguing that international attention could help discourage violence, while critics have questioned the involvement of foreign authorities in Nigeria’s domestic electoral affairs.

It remains unclear from Davido’s public statement which specific US government officials or agency contacted him, or what action, if any, the US authorities intend to take.
The claim that the US Government reached out was made by Davido himself and should therefore be understood in that context.
The August 15 Osun election remains one of the most closely watched governorship contests in the country.
