Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, an associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has reportedly been shot dead in Ile-Ife.
Oyeyemi was killed at Mayfair Garage in Ile-Ife on Sunday amid a dispute reportedly connected to control and management of a motor park.
Multiple reports said the deceased was a member of the Accord Party and had been involved in transport and motor-park activities in Osun State.
Adeleke orders arrests
Governor Adeleke has directed the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, to arrest all persons allegedly involved in the killing.
The governor also ordered rival groups involved in the dispute to vacate motor parks while directing security agencies to restore order.
Adeleke said there would be “no sacred cows” and called for calm as authorities investigate the incident.
Motor-park dispute at centre of incident
Reports indicate that the shooting occurred during a dispute linked to control of the Ife Mini-Bus motor park.
The precise circumstances surrounding the confrontation remained unclear in the immediate aftermath of the killing.
Security authorities are expected to establish what triggered the confrontation, identify those responsible and determine whether the incident was part of a wider struggle for control of transport operations.
Adeleke announces new park management plan
Following the killing, Adeleke announced plans to reintroduce a Park Management System across Osun State.
The governor said he would issue an Executive Order to establish the framework for managing motor parks and garages.
The move represents a significant policy response to recurring disputes over control of transport facilities in the state.
Adeleke said the objective was to restore discipline and order within the motor-park system.
Oyeyemi’s controversial history
Oyeyemi had previously faced serious criminal allegations and legal proceedings.
Reports indicate that he was declared wanted by the police in 2022 and subsequently arrested and arraigned in connection with multiple allegations.
He was granted bail in 2024.
Those previous allegations, however, should be distinguished from the circumstances of his reported killing, which remain the subject of investigation.
Security concerns in Osun
The killing comes at a sensitive moment for Osun, where Governor Adeleke had earlier urged residents to remain vigilant following security warnings concerning alleged plans by terrorists to move into South-West states.
The governor’s call for vigilance, combined with the latest political and transport-related violence, has increased attention on security in the state.
Authorities will now face the task of preventing the killing from triggering retaliatory violence or further clashes between rival groups.
For the moment, Adeleke has directed security agencies to restore calm while investigators pursue those responsible for the shooting.
