The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Najeem Salaam, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election.
Salaam said the outcome of the election demonstrated that democracy had prevailed and urged stakeholders to respect the mandate given by voters.
The ADC candidate’s reaction followed the declaration of Adeleke as winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
Salaam said the result reflected the decision of the people of Osun State and called on the governor to use his second term to improve governance across the state.
His concession message comes amid the APC’s decision to review the election results and consider its legal options.
The Osun election had generated intense political competition, with the Accord, APC and ADC among the major parties contesting the poll.
With Adeleke now declared winner, attention has shifted to the governor’s second-term agenda and the possibility of post-election legal proceedings.
