The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has described the outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election as a warning sign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory demonstrated that Nigerians could defeat the APC at the polls.
The APM argued that the Osun result showed voters were willing to reject the ruling party when presented with an alternative.
The party further expressed confidence in its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to the APM, the Osun outcome has increased its confidence that Makinde can defeat President Tinubu in 2027.
The party’s position comes after Adeleke defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji in the Osun governorship election.
The result has generated considerable political debate, with opposition parties presenting the outcome as evidence of growing resistance to the APC, while the ruling party and its supporters have rejected attempts to interpret the state election as a direct prediction of the 2027 presidential contest.
The APM, however, maintained that the Osun election offered important lessons ahead of the next general election.
