The abducted headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Oyo State, Mr. Mathew Kolawole Owoade, has regained his freedom after spending about 48 hours in captivity. Reports indicate that his family eventually paid ₦5 million after kidnappers allegedly increased an earlier negotiated ransom.

Relief has returned to Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State following the release of abducted school headmaster, Mathew Kolawole Owoade, popularly known as Onaiye.

The 60-year-old educator regained his freedom on Monday evening after spending two days in the custody of his abductors.

According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦30 million from the family before negotiations reportedly reduced the amount.

Sources familiar with the development disclosed that after the family raised an agreed sum of ₦3 million, the kidnappers allegedly increased their demand to ₦5 million, which was eventually paid before the victim was released.

Residents of Igbojaye and neighbouring communities reportedly celebrated his return, describing the development as a huge relief after days of anxiety.

The headmaster was said to have reunited with family members shortly after regaining freedom.

The release comes days after concerns mounted over rising insecurity affecting schools and rural communities in Oyo State. Security agencies have yet to announce arrests linked to the abduction.
