Governor Seyi Makinde says government is exploring every possible option as panic spreads over abducted teachers and pupils in Oyo.

Fresh tension has gripped Oyo State after Governor Seyi Makinde revealed that his administration is willing to “listen” as efforts intensify to rescue abducted teachers and pupils taken during the shocking school invasion in Oriire Local Government Area.

The terrifying attack, which occurred in multiple schools within Ahoro-Esinlẹ community, has triggered nationwide outrage after gunmen stormed the schools and whisked away several victims. Governor Makinde confirmed that at least seven teachers were abducted, while one teacher was reportedly killed in captivity.

Speaking after a high-level security meeting, the governor stated that the state government is deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to secure the release of the victims. His comments suggesting readiness to “listen” to the abductors have since sparked widespread debate over whether negotiations should be considered in kidnapping cases.

Security agencies have already arrested multiple suspects, including individuals believed to be informants within the affected communities. Investigators are also carrying out forensic analysis on a disturbing viral video linked to the attack.

The tragedy has further intensified fears over the spread of banditry into Southern Nigeria, with Makinde warning that pressure on criminal groups in the North may be pushing them southward. Meanwhile, rescue operations have reportedly suffered setbacks after some security operatives were killed by explosives allegedly planted by the attackers.

Parents, residents and teachers across Oyo State remain gripped by anxiety as calls grow louder for urgent government action to prevent another devastating school kidnapping crisis.
