Photos of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, harvesting vegetables from her garden at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, have gone viral on social media. The harvest is part of her Every Home A Garden initiative, which encourages Nigerians to cultivate vegetables at home to improve food security and healthy living.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has once again drawn public attention after new photographs showed her harvesting fresh vegetables from her home garden inside the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The images, which quickly circulated across social media platforms, show the First Lady picking vegetables including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin before sharing part of the harvest with members of her staff.

According to information released by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the harvest was carried out during a routine visit to the Villa’s vegetable garden, which was established about two years ago under the Every Home A Garden initiative of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

The garden continues to produce a variety of vegetables, reflecting the First Lady’s campaign encouraging households to grow food within available spaces as a practical way of promoting food security and healthy nutrition.

After the harvest, Senator Tinubu reportedly distributed some of the fresh vegetables to members of her staff, urging Nigerians to embrace kindness by sharing with others.

The Every Home A Garden initiative was launched in 2024 to encourage women and families across Nigeria to establish home gardens as part of efforts to improve household food production amid rising food costs.

At the launch of the initiative, the First Lady explained that even small gardens could provide nutritious vegetables for families while reducing the cost of feeding. The Villa garden includes crops such as spinach, waterleaf, bitter leaf, scent leaf, ewedu, okra and lemongrass.

Senator Tinubu reiterated her call for Nigerians to cultivate vegetables in their homes wherever possible, saying household farming can contribute to national food security while promoting healthier eating habits.

The Renewed Hope Initiative continues to encourage participation in the Every Home A Garden programme as part of its broader food security campaign.

The latest harvest has generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users commending the First Lady’s consistency in promoting home gardening, while others debated the broader impact of such initiatives on Nigeria’s food security challenges. Regardless of the differing opinions, the campaign continues to place household farming at the centre of conversations on sustainable food production.
