Fresh controversy has erupted after Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi publicly alleged that he paid ₦600 million to secure appointment as head of a federal agency, a claim that has triggered widespread reactions. The Presidency has previously disowned both the purported appointment and the agency he claimed to head.
A fresh political controversy has emerged following claims by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi that he paid ₦600 million in exchange for appointment to head a federal agency. The allegation has generated intense public debate, although the Presidency has maintained that the agency in question does not exist under the Federal Government.
In recent public statements, Adeyemi alleged that he paid ₦400 million upfront and was later asked to provide an additional ₦200 million, bringing the total to ₦600 million, in connection with his purported appointment to lead the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). He also made other allegations relating to funding for the purported body.
However, the Presidency has categorically rejected the claims, stating that no such council exists under the administration and that no appointment was made in Adeyemi’s name.
Earlier in June, the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President issued a public disclaimer, describing the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council as a non-existent organisation and warning Nigerians against recognising any appointments or representations made under its name. The Presidency also advised the public to rely only on official government channels for confirmation of federal appointments.
The latest allegations have renewed public attention on the controversy, but the bribery claims remain unproven, and no law enforcement agency has announced criminal findings against any of the individuals named by Adeyemi.
The Presidency has insisted that the alleged council has no legal existence within the Federal Government and reaffirmed that any purported appointment made under its banner is invalid.
As of the latest reports, there has been no official announcement of criminal charges arising from Adeyemi’s allegations, while the claims continue to generate political and public debate.
The controversy continues to attract nationwide attention because of the seriousness of the allegations. However, the central claims remain disputed, with the Presidency firmly denying the existence of the alleged agency and rejecting any suggestion that it authorised the purported appointment.
