Federal prosecutors in the United States have indicted three Nigerian nationals over their alleged involvement in a wire fraud and online scam network that reportedly defrauded victims of millions of dollars.

Three Nigerian nationals have been charged in the United States in connection with an alleged fraud scheme involving wire fraud, conspiracy, and online deception targeting multiple victims.

According to court documents and a statement from U.S. authorities, the suspects were accused of participating in a coordinated fraud operation that used online impersonation and deceptive communications to defraud individuals, including elderly victims.

The alleged scheme reportedly involved the use of false identities and fabricated stories to build trust with victims over time before soliciting money under pretences such as financial hardship, medical emergencies, or legal troubles. Funds were allegedly transferred through various channels, including gift cards, cryptocurrency, and bank accounts linked to the suspects.

U.S. investigators said the fraud network operated across multiple years and was connected to broader cyber-enabled financial crimes targeting victims both within and outside the United States.

The Department of Justice confirmed that the accused individuals have been indicted on charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud. If convicted, they could face significant prison sentences under U.S. federal law.

Authorities added that investigations into the wider network are still ongoing, and additional suspects or charges may emerge as evidence is reviewed.

Fraud cases involving international cyber networks have become increasingly common in recent years, with U.S. law enforcement agencies intensifying efforts to track and prosecute individuals involved in romance scams, business email compromise, and online impersonation schemes.

Officials say the case remains under active investigation, with further legal proceedings expected in federal court.
