Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on judges, lawyers and other stakeholders in the justice sector to uphold the independence, integrity and credibility of the judiciary.
The governor made the call on Monday during a special service marking the opening of the 2026/2027 Legal Year at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
Institutional Independence
The governor emphasised the importance of ensuring that institutions of justice outlive the individuals and governments responsible for administering them.
His message focused on the role of the judiciary in maintaining public confidence in the legal system and ensuring that justice institutions operate with integrity.
Judicial independence is a core principle of constitutional governance, requiring judicial decision-making to be protected from improper interference.
