Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore says current salaries can no longer sustain workers amid rising hardship.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for a ₦500,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers, insisting that current salaries no longer reflect economic realities.

Sowore argued that worsening inflation, high transportation costs and rising food prices have pushed millions of workers into severe hardship across the country.

According to him, Nigerian workers deserve salaries capable of meeting modern living standards rather than wages that barely sustain families for a few weeks.

His statement has already triggered major reactions online, with supporters describing the proposal as necessary while critics questioned whether state governments and private employers can sustain such payments.

The debate over minimum wage continues to dominate national discussions as labour unions and government authorities face increasing pressure over the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
