NIGERIA-VOTE

The campaign office of Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho, a Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency, has reportedly been attacked in Benin City, Edo State, with campaign posters, banners and other materials allegedly destroyed.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the office along Stadium Road.

A visit to the premises by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday revealed visible signs of damage, including campaign materials that had been pulled down or destroyed. BusinessDay also reported the alleged incident.

Candidate Reports Alleged Destruction

Omosigho, who represents Oredo East Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, said community members alerted him to the incident.

He reportedly visited the office later that night and encountered youths who told him that unidentified persons had arrived and destroyed campaign materials.

The lawmaker alleged that other campaign posters and billboards had also been removed or damaged in different locations across the constituency.

He said the matter had been reported to the police and that relevant security authorities had been informed.

As of the reports reviewed, no individual or group had been publicly established as responsible for the alleged attack, and a response from the Edo State Police Command had not been obtained.

Call for Peaceful Political Participation

Omosigho urged young people not to allow themselves to be used to perpetrate political violence.

He said campaign materials were intended to introduce candidates and political parties to voters and that citizens should be free to make their electoral choices independently.

The lawmaker also appealed to NDC members and supporters to remain calm and continue their political activities peacefully.

The incident comes as political actors begin preparations for the 2027 general elections. Any allegations of politically motivated destruction or intimidation require impartial investigation and appropriate action by law enforcement agencies.
