President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending approximately four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
The President’s aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, according to the information provided by the Presidency.
His return follows weeks of public discussion about his extended stay abroad and questions from opposition figures regarding his physical absence from Nigeria.
Presidency Describes Trip as Working Vacation
The Presidency maintained that Tinubu’s time abroad was a working vacation, rather than an abandonment of his official responsibilities.
The return announcement marks the end of the European trip and his arrival back in the country ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
Tinubu had previously faced criticism from political opponents over his absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
