President Bola Tinubu has emphasised the importance of Oyo State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, who recently met with the President in Abuja.
Buhari, who represents Oyo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, disclosed details of the meeting during an appearance on Arise Television, where he discussed the APC’s political prospects in Oyo State and the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle.
According to the senator, Tinubu made it clear that the ruling party must secure victory in Oyo State in the 2027 elections. The President also reportedly asked about the party’s chances in the state and indicated a willingness to address key demands from the region.
Buhari’s account highlights the strategic importance of Oyo State to the APC as political parties begin positioning themselves for the next general elections. The state is one of the major political battlegrounds in the South-West, a region that has considerable significance in Tinubu’s political calculations.
The senator, who is serving his third consecutive term representing Oyo North, is among the political figures expected to play a role in the party’s mobilisation efforts in the state.
Tinubu’s reported emphasis on Oyo reflects the broader challenge facing the APC as it seeks to consolidate its support base and strengthen its electoral structures ahead of 2027.
However, the President’s reported remarks, as relayed by Buhari, do not establish the level of support the APC currently enjoys across Oyo State. The party’s electoral prospects will depend on its candidates, campaign strategy, local political alliances and voters’ assessment of the government’s performance.
As the election approaches, the extent to which the APC can translate its national political influence into electoral gains in Oyo State will remain a key issue in the contest.
