The British government says it is taking more than a passing interest in Nigeria’s upcoming electoral process.

The United Kingdom has said it is closely monitoring Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The position was conveyed by the British envoy during an engagement with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

According to the envoy, the UK wants to see credible elections in Nigeria, signalling continued international attention on the country’s electoral system and democratic institutions.

The remarks come as political activities and early alignments ahead of the next election cycle gradually begin to take shape across the country.

Nigeria’s elections have continued to attract significant global interest due to the country’s political and economic influence within Africa, making electoral credibility a recurring subject in diplomatic engagements.

The statement also reinforces broader conversations around transparency, public trust and institutional accountability within Nigeria’s democratic process.

No further details were immediately released regarding the broader outcome of the meeting.
