Minister of Works David Umahi has directed that an autopsy be conducted to determine the cause of death of Mary Habila, the physiotherapist who died at his residence in Uburu, Ebonyi State, insisting that a scientific examination is the only credible way to establish the facts as police investigations continue.

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has intensified calls for a post-mortem examination into the death of physiotherapist Mary Habila, saying only an autopsy can resolve the growing controversy surrounding the incident.

The minister’s latest remarks come as public interest continues to grow over the circumstances of Habila’s death, with many Nigerians demanding transparency and accountability as investigations progress.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing road projects, Umahi said the incident was immediately reported to the police and that emergency medical personnel responded after Habila was found unconscious.

He maintained that there was no attempt to conceal the incident, stressing that the deceased was rushed to hospital where efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful.

According to the minister, he has again directed that an autopsy be carried out, describing it as the most objective means of determining the actual cause of death.

Umahi disclosed that he personally met with Habila’s parents to express his condolences and discuss the need for a post-mortem examination.

He also said the Nigeria Police and medical personnel from the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences were notified immediately after the incident, adding that investigators are handling the matter in line with legal procedures.

The minister urged members of the public to avoid drawing conclusions before the investigation is completed, warning that misinformation could undermine ongoing inquiries.

He also indicated that legal action may be taken against individuals or platforms accused of publishing information he considers false or defamatory regarding the case.

Authorities have yet to announce the outcome of the police investigation or release the findings of the expected autopsy.

Until those processes are completed, the exact cause and circumstances surrounding Mary Habila’s death remain officially undetermined.

As investigators work to establish what happened, the outcome of the autopsy is expected to play a central role in addressing the questions surrounding the incident. With public attention fixed on the case, many Nigerians are awaiting the official findings before drawing conclusions.
