Singer Wande Coal has seemingly responded to Afrobeats superstar Davido after the latter opened up about an unreleased collaboration involving Wande’s 2021 hit song, “Come My Way.”

Davido recently revisited the story behind the unreleased collaboration during an appearance on the Uncut Podcast, explaining why a verse he recorded for Wande Coal’s song never made it onto the final release.

According to Davido, Wande had initially brought the song to him and he recorded a verse for it. However, a disagreement later emerged over how Davido’s contribution would be released.

Davido said he understood that his verse would be part of the original song, while Wande wanted to release the track first and subsequently use Davido’s contribution on a remix.

“I recorded the song, then he wanted to drop the song first and use my own verse for the remix, but I was like, no, because I didn’t record the song for a remix,” Davido explained.

He said the disagreement ultimately meant the collaboration was never released.

Davido, however, made it clear that he was impressed with the verse he had recorded.

“That verse is st¥pid hard. It’s so sick. So good,” he said while recalling the unreleased recording.

The comments brought renewed attention to a collaboration that has remained unheard by fans despite the established relationship between the two Nigerian stars.

Wande Coal appears to respond

Following Davido’s comments, Wande Coal appeared to respond to the discussion, suggesting that “Come My Way” performed well without Davido’s contribution.

The response has since added a competitive undertone to what had previously appeared to be a simple story about an unreleased collaboration.

Rather than directly addressing the disagreement over the proposed remix, Wande’s apparent response centred on the performance of the song itself — essentially pointing out that the record succeeded without the unreleased verse.

The wording has prompted fans to interpret the exchange as a subtle back-and-forth between two established Afrobeats figures.

However, there is currently no basis to describe the exchange as a full-blown feud.

‘Come My Way’ was already Wande’s record

“Come My Way” was released by Wande Coal in October 2021 and became part of his Legend Or No Legend era. The song was produced by Bruno and Screwface. The Guardian described it at the time as a catchy Afropop release built around Wande’s vocals.

Wande later explained the creative process behind the song during a track-by-track conversation about Legend Or No Legend.

He said the song came from a studio session involving producer Kel-P and Bruno, adding that he wanted the record to carry both South African and Nigerian influences because of the prominence of Amapiano at the time.

That background is significant because it establishes “Come My Way” as a record with its own creative identity before the discussion surrounding Davido’s unreleased contribution.

The song remains officially available under Wande Coal’s catalogue, including streaming platforms.

A collaboration that never became public

The story also highlights the complicated process behind major artist collaborations.

Recording a verse does not necessarily mean a collaboration will eventually be released. Decisions around ownership, release timing, remix arrangements, creative direction and artist expectations can determine whether a recorded collaboration ever reaches listeners.

In Davido’s account, the disagreement was specifically about the status of his verse and whether it would be used on the original release or saved for a remix.

That disagreement ultimately kept the recording from becoming part of the official “Come My Way” release.

The irony is that Davido now appears to regard the unreleased verse highly, describing it as exceptionally good years after the song came out.

For fans, that has naturally raised a familiar question: what would “Come My Way” have sounded like with Davido on it?

No confirmation of a new collaboration

While the renewed discussion has generated interest among fans, there is no confirmed announcement that the unreleased verse will now be released or that Wande Coal and Davido are preparing a new version of “Come My Way.”

For now, the exchange remains a conversation about a collaboration that never made the final cut.

Wande’s apparent response, however, has given the story another layer.

Davido remembers the unreleased verse as a standout contribution.

Wande, meanwhile, appears to be reminding listeners that the song itself did not need the unreleased feature to make an impact.

And that may be what has made the exchange particularly interesting to fans of both artists.
