Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027, arguing that recent political realignments are strengthening the President’s position.
Wike made the remarks in Abuja while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the political landscape was changing rapidly and predicted that an increasingly broad coalition would emerge in support of Tinubu.
Wike points to emerging “Rainbow Coalition”
The FCT minister specifically referenced the recent political engagements involving Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke, who recently won re-election in Osun State, met with President Tinubu and subsequently held discussions with Wike.
According to Wike, the meetings were evidence of broader political realignment taking place ahead of 2027.
He predicted the emergence of what he called a “Rainbow Coalition” supporting the President.
Wike said the coming weeks would reveal more political movements in Tinubu’s direction.
The minister went further, saying the 2027 contest could effectively be decided before voting day because of the political developments taking place.
Wike dismisses opposition strength
Wike also questioned whether Nigeria currently has a clearly identifiable leading opposition party.
He argued that divisions within opposition political parties have weakened their ability to mount a coordinated challenge against the ruling APC.
The minister particularly pointed to divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party’s internal problems have made it difficult to describe it as the dominant opposition force.
His remarks came amid the growing alliance between opposition figures and parties ahead of the presidential election.
Wike has repeatedly positioned himself as a strong supporter of Tinubu’s re-election bid, despite remaining formally associated with the PDP.
“Adeleke belongs to us”
The FCT minister also made a striking declaration about Adeleke’s political position.
He said the Osun governor belonged to the political camp supporting Tinubu, despite Adeleke contesting the Osun election on the Accord platform.
Wike argued that Adeleke’s choice of platform was largely influenced by political circumstances within the PDP.
He concluded by saying that Adeleke and those in his political camp were aligned with the President.
Wike’s latest comments add to the increasingly aggressive political rhetoric surrounding the 2027 election, although his prediction of a Tinubu victory remains a political assessment rather than an established electoral outcome.
