Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has ordered tougher enforcement against commercial transport operators who pick up passengers from unauthorised locations in Abuja.
The minister warned that vehicles belonging to operators who ignore designated bus terminals could be impounded as the FCT Administration intensifies efforts to restore order to the capital’s transport system.
Transporters directed to use approved terminals
Wike issued the warning during activities surrounding the commencement of operations at the Mabushi Bus Terminal.
He directed commercial transport operators to use designated terminals instead of loading passengers from unauthorised locations.
The minister said enforcement agencies would begin impounding vehicles belonging to operators who refuse to comply with the directive.
The move is part of a broader effort by the FCT Administration to enforce traffic and urban planning regulations.
Car dealers ordered off green areas
Wike has also directed the removal of car dealerships operating on Abuja’s designated green areas, parks and gardens.
He said spaces reserved for recreation and environmental purposes should not be converted into commercial vehicle sales outlets.
The minister specifically directed that enforcement should cover green areas across the Federal Capital City, including spaces around Millennium Park.
Wike also linked some of the enforcement measures to efforts to address flooding, directing officials to remove structures obstructing natural waterways.
The FCT Administration said the measures were necessary to restore proper urban planning, protect recreational spaces and improve the city’s transportation system.
The minister has insisted that the directives will be enforced regardless of the individuals or businesses affected.
