Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has declared that the state is “100 per cent” behind the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence that residents will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Kefas made the declaration on Wednesday after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he said federal government interventions in Taraba had strengthened public confidence in the administration.

The governor, who now leads the APC in Taraba, cited interventions in security, education, healthcare and infrastructure as areas where he said residents were already feeling the impact of the Federal Government’s policies.

“I’m on ground; we’re in charge. All the interventions, all the support from the President, the people are feeling it, from security to free education to healthcare system to infrastructure,” Kefas said.

He added that the interventions had, in his assessment, given residents sufficient assurance of Tinubu’s commitment to the state.

“So the people have no doubt, and they’ve given all the assurance that Mr President is reaching out to them through me, and for that reason, they are going to vote for Mr President. Taraba State is for APC 100 per cent,” the governor said.

Kefas’s declaration marks a significant political development in a state where he was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before moving into the APC.

His shift into the ruling party has since altered the political calculations in Taraba ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as the APC seeks to consolidate support across states previously controlled by opposition parties.

The governor’s latest comments also amount to a direct endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election bid at a time when political parties are intensifying mobilisation for the 2027 contest.

Kefas was at the Presidential Villa primarily to welcome Tinubu back and offer condolences following the recent Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State, which claimed the lives of military personnel and other passengers.

He described the crash as a national tragedy and said his visit was also intended to sympathise with the President over the incident.

With the 2027 election approaching, Kefas’s declaration places Taraba firmly within the APC’s growing list of states where governors and political leaders are publicly positioning themselves behind Tinubu.

Whether that political commitment translates into votes, however, will ultimately be determined by voters at the ballot box in 2027.
