The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has urged journalists in the state to hold him accountable to his campaign promises if elected governor in 2027.
Adeola made the call on Friday during an engagement with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, at the union’s secretariat in Abeokuta.
The Ogun West senator said the development of the state should be treated as a collective responsibility and urged the media to scrutinise his proposed policies and measure his administration against the commitments contained in his manifesto.
Manifesto as Accountability Benchmark
Adeola said his manifesto should not be treated simply as an electoral document but as a benchmark against which his performance should be assessed if he wins the governorship election.
He encouraged journalists to question the implementation of his promises and provide the public with information needed to evaluate the performance of any government that emerges from the 2027 election.
The APC candidate has presented a nine-point development agenda for Ogun State covering areas including infrastructure, job creation, healthcare, education, agriculture and industrial development.
Adeola also spoke about the role of continuity in governance, arguing that development should be sustained across administrations rather than abandoned whenever political leadership changes.
Media and Democratic Accountability
His appeal places the media at the centre of the accountability process ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Journalists are expected to scrutinise campaign promises, compare them with government policies and track the implementation of commitments after elections.
The engagement also comes as political parties and candidates intensify their preparations for the 2027 elections across Ogun State.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, is seeking to become the next governor of the state on the APC platform.
His call for media scrutiny therefore places his manifesto and proposed development agenda under public examination ahead of the election.
