The cleric’s comments come amid an ongoing national debate over religious balancing in Nigerian politics, particularly following the emergence of the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The issue has remained politically sensitive, with supporters arguing that candidates should be judged primarily by competence and performance, while critics have raised concerns about religious representation and inclusion.
Jingir’s position adds another voice to the debate as political actors and religious leaders increasingly mobilise supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
