Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, eldest son of former Kano State Governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to the ruling party after a brief stint with the New Democratic Congress (NDC).

The development marks a political reunion between Abdulaziz and his father within the APC, after the younger Ganduje had previously aligned with the camp of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Abdulaziz had joined the NDC earlier in 2026 and obtained the party’s nomination form to contest for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat in Kano State.

His earlier move to the NDC had attracted attention because of the longstanding political rivalry between his father, Ganduje, and Kwankwaso in Kano politics.

The latest development now places Abdulaziz back in the APC camp alongside his father.

The return comes amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians across the country changing political affiliations and repositioning themselves ahead of the polls.

Abdulaziz’s movement is particularly significant in Kano, where the political influence of the Ganduje and Kwankwaso camps remains a major factor in the state’s political calculations.

The development is expected to generate further discussion about the evolving alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
