The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, has visited Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State to assess the security situation following renewed threats allegedly linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group.

The operational assessment visit was aimed at evaluating the security situation in the area and strengthening the military’s response to emerging threats.

Koughna, who also serves as Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, visited communities affected by renewed security concerns linked to the group.

The visit comes amid continued security challenges across parts of north-western Nigeria, where armed groups and terrorist organisations have remained a major concern.

The Army has maintained that its troops remain prepared to respond to threats and protect communities within its area of responsibility.

The assessment in Kebbe is expected to help the military strengthen its operational strategy and improve security coordination in response to the reported Lakurawa threat.

Major General Koughna assumed command of the 8 Division earlier in 2026, with responsibility covering military operations in the region.
