Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the state Attorney-General to withdraw the lawsuit filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s account.
Adeleke disclosed the decision after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened in the dispute.
The governor had previously taken the EFCC to court over the freezing of the state government’s account and sought legal redress over the action.
However, following discussions with President Tinubu, Adeleke said he had instructed the Attorney-General to discontinue the case.
The governor’s decision comes shortly after his re-election in the August 15 Osun governorship election.
The account freeze had become a major political issue in the state, particularly during the period leading up to the governorship poll.
The EFCC had previously explained that the account was frozen as part of efforts to prevent the alleged misuse or diversion of public funds.
Adeleke’s withdrawal of the suit now brings the immediate legal dispute between the Osun State Government and the anti-graft agency to an end, subject to the formal discontinuance of the case.
The governor has also continued to publicly acknowledge President Tinubu’s intervention, despite their political differences.
