About 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology in Sokoto State have reportedly been abducted while travelling to their hometowns in Oyo State.
The students were reportedly travelling in a vehicle when suspected terrorists intercepted them along the route.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred within the past 48 hours and that the driver of the vehicle was allegedly killed during the attack.
Families face uncertainty
The reported abduction has raised fresh concerns over the safety of students travelling between states, particularly along routes vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.
Details about the identities of the abducted students, their current location and whether any communication has been established with their families remained limited in the initial reports.
The use of the term “terrorists” should remain attributed to the reports until authorities formally establish the identity and affiliation of the attackers.
Security agencies expected to respond
Authorities are expected to intensify efforts to locate the students and secure their safe release.
The incident also highlights continuing concerns about the safety of road travel in parts of Nigeria, where criminal and insurgent groups have targeted passengers, students and other civilians.
Further official confirmation is required on the number of victims, the circumstances surrounding the reported death of the driver and the identities of those responsible.
