Former PDP Flagbearer Stages Major Political Comeback as ADC Intensifies Battle for Kaduna Government House

A fresh political wave has swept through Kaduna State as Isa Ashiru, former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ashiru’s emergence is already stirring major conversations across Kaduna’s political landscape, especially given his long-standing rivalry with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The former federal lawmaker secured victory during the ADC governorship primaries, defeating other contenders in what observers described as a highly competitive exercise.

The development marks another dramatic twist in Kaduna politics after Ashiru dumped the PDP earlier this year amid internal party tensions and aligned with the ADC coalition movement. His switch was widely interpreted as part of broader opposition realignments ahead of the crucial 2027 elections.

Political analysts believe Ashiru’s candidacy could reshape the governorship race, considering his strong grassroots structure and previous electoral performances. In the 2023 governorship election, Ashiru came close to victory after polling hundreds of thousands of votes against the APC candidate, Governor Uba Sani.

However, controversy has already started trailing parts of the ADC primaries, with some aspirants reportedly rejecting the outcome and alleging irregularities. Despite the complaints, Ashiru’s camp insists the process reflected the will of party members and vowed to unite the opposition ahead of 2027.

With the ADC gaining momentum nationwide and opposition coalitions beginning to solidify, Kaduna is fast emerging as one of the states to watch closely in Nigeria’s next political battle.
