The Nigeria Police Force says the suspects allegedly defrauded a Malta-based victim through an online romance scheme.

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has arrested a mother and her daughter over their alleged involvement in a romance scam targeting a foreign victim.

Police authorities said the suspects allegedly defrauded a Malta-based victim of more than ₦18 million through online emotional manipulation and fraudulent promises.

According to investigators, the suspects reportedly operated a coordinated online scheme designed to gain the trust of unsuspecting victims before demanding money under false pretences.

The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the police to clamp down on cybercrime and internet fraud across the country, especially cases involving international victims.

Authorities say investigations are still ongoing as security operatives work to uncover possible additional victims and accomplices linked to the alleged scam network.
