The activist says the NDC will not conduct primaries for the FCT senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 election.

Activist and social commentator, Aisha Yesufu, has withdrawn from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ending her bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu announced her withdrawal in a statement on Friday, explaining that the party had decided not to conduct primaries for the FCT senatorial seat.

“Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for House of Representatives,” she stated.

The activist urged her supporters to remain calm and focus on the broader political objective ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK!” she said while appreciating supporters of the #AishaForSenate movement.

Yesufu also disclosed plans to continue political engagement across the six area councils in the FCT, saying she would return to appreciate residents for their support and continue advocating for a better capital city.

She had declared interest in the FCT senatorial race on May 6 after defecting from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC.

Her withdrawal comes amid speculations that the party may have backed another aspirant, Amanda Pam, although the NDC has yet to officially comment on the claims.
