Chief of Defence Staff says only individuals coerced into terrorism are considered for rehabilitation, not active combatants.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has clarified Nigeria’s approach to handling individuals linked to terrorist activities, stating that rehabilitation efforts are reserved for those forced into terrorism under duress.
According to him, the Nigerian Armed Forces distinguish between individuals who were compelled into terrorism and those who are active combatants, stressing that the latter are not part of any rehabilitation programme.
The Defence Chief explained that the military continues to refine its deradicalisation and reintegration framework as part of broader national security efforts.
His statement highlights ongoing debates around counterterrorism strategy in Nigeria, especially concerning reintegration policies in conflict-affected regions.
