Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed says the political sacrifices required to build support for Peter Obi in Northern Nigeria may not be easily replicated.
Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has raised questions about whether former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would be willing or able to undertake the level of political engagement he says was necessary to market Peter Obi across Northern Nigeria during the 2023 presidential election.
Datti made the remarks while reflecting on political alignments and the prospects of future opposition collaborations ahead of the 2027 general election. According to him, regional political realities remain a significant factor in determining electoral outcomes in Nigeria.
His comments come amid continued discussions about possible alliances involving major opposition figures. The remarks also highlight the strategic importance political actors place on Northern Nigeria in national electoral calculations.
While expressing respect for key political stakeholders, Datti indicated that support structures, influence networks and regional considerations would continue to shape the conversation around future political partnerships.
