A fresh rift has opened within the Kebbi APC after the suspension of key party figures over issues linked to the party’s handling of the Zuru State Constituency by-election.

A new internal crisis has erupted in the Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress after the party announced the suspension of its state chairman, a local government party chairman and a serving commissioner.

The development follows tensions over the APC’s performance in the recently concluded Zuru State Constituency by-election, a contest that has now become the immediate trigger for disciplinary action within the party structure in the state. Those suspended include Kebbi APC State Chairman Abubakar Muhammad Kana-Zuru and the APC Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Aliyu Abiola. Reports on the matter also indicate that a serving commissioner was sanctioned as the fallout widened.

The suspensions were announced in a statement signed by the APC State Secretary, Sa’idu Muhammad Kimba, and released in Birnin Kebbi. While the action is framed as an internal party decision, it points to deeper strain within the state chapter as party leaders move to assign responsibility for the by-election outcome and alleged infractions linked to the conduct of some officials.

What emerges from the dispute is a party chapter under pressure from both electoral expectations and internal accountability. The Zuru by-election appears to have become more than a local contest; it has exposed fault lines within the APC’s Kebbi structure and reopened questions about cohesion ahead of future political battles in the state.

For the moment, the suspensions mark the party’s most visible response to the dispute. Whether the move settles the matter or deepens the crisis further remains tied to whatever next steps the state chapter and its leadership take internally.
