Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa South Senatorial District have called on the party to zone its 2027 deputy governorship ticket to the district and endorsed former lawmaker Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu as their preferred candidate.

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa South Senatorial District have called on the party to allocate its deputy governorship ticket for the 2027 governorship election to the district, endorsing former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, as their preferred choice. The position was adopted during the Nasarawa South APC Critical Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Lafia.

The resolution was contained in a communiqué signed by the meeting’s convener, Ayuba Umbugadu, and released after the gathering. According to the communiqué, the stakeholders reviewed the political situation in the state and stressed the need for inclusiveness, competence, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the APC and electoral viability in selecting the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

The stakeholders also acknowledged Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the APC’s governorship candidate and unanimously endorsed Kigbu, popularly known as Likitan Talakawa, as the most qualified and strategically positioned person to serve as his running mate. They said a Wadada-Kigbu ticket would strengthen the party’s chances of victory in the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement comes as political consultations continue within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections in Nasarawa State. While recognising that other aspirants have shown interest in the deputy governorship position, the stakeholders said their endorsement reflected what they described as the collective preference of party members and loyalists across the state.

In the communiqué, the stakeholders called on Governor Abdullahi Sule, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, the APC State Chairman, members of the State Executive Committee and other party leaders to consider their recommendation and endorse Kigbu as the party’s deputy governorship candidate. They maintained that their decision followed extensive consultations and deliberations among party stakeholders.

The stakeholders said their endorsement represents the unanimous position of APC leaders and party loyalists from Nasarawa South and expressed confidence that the recommendation would contribute to the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
