Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare says the Tinubu administration is not worried about Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition, insisting the government is focused on its record in office.

The Presidency has dismissed concerns over the 2027 presidential ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi, with the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, declaring that the administration does not consider Obi a political threat.

Speaking during an appearance on the Mic On Podcast, Dare said President Tinubu’s administration is relying on its performance in office rather than political calculations ahead of the next general election. He maintained that the government’s reforms and policy initiatives have strengthened public confidence.

Dare also argued that Obi would not repeat his 2023 electoral performance in Lagos State, expressing confidence that President Tinubu would reclaim the state in the 2027 presidential election. According to him, the administration remains focused on governance and delivering on its promises to Nigerians.

The remarks come amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties intensifying consultations and the Presidency defending the administration’s record. Dare’s comments add to the ongoing political exchanges between the government and opposition figures over the next presidential contest.

According to Dare, “This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance.” He added that the administration would continue to focus on governance rather than political distractions.

The Presidency maintained that its confidence ahead of the 2027 election is rooted in what it described as the administration’s performance, while political activities among the major parties continue to gather momentum across the country.
