The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the National Assembly to investigate whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fit to discharge the responsibilities of his office. The opposition party cited recent controversies over presidential appointments, leadership disputes in federal agencies and policy reversals, arguing that they raise questions about who is exercising executive authority within the Presidency.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified its criticism of the Tinubu administration by asking the National Assembly to examine whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is still effectively exercising the constitutional powers of his office.
The party said recent developments involving disputed appointments and leadership crises in some federal agencies suggest what it described as growing uncertainty over decision-making within the Presidency.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC pointed to the controversy surrounding the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), where a former chief executive was reportedly said to have continued functioning despite a presidential announcement naming a replacement.
According to the party, if those reports are accurate, they raise broader constitutional concerns about whether presidential directives are being implemented as intended.
The ADC also referenced the earlier controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), alongside several Federal Government policy reversals, arguing that the incidents point to a pattern of administrative inconsistency.
The opposition party alleged that these developments have created uncertainty about who exercises key presidential powers relating to appointments and removals within government institutions.
Based on those concerns, the ADC urged the National Assembly to activate its constitutional oversight responsibilities by examining whether the President remains capable of effectively discharging the duties attached to his office.
The party argued that Nigerians deserve clarity regarding the exercise of executive authority, particularly where questions arise over the implementation of presidential decisions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not publicly responded to the ADC’s latest statement.
The National Assembly had also not indicated whether it would act on the opposition party’s request for an investigation into the President’s fitness to remain in office.
The ADC’s latest demand adds to the increasingly heated political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying scrutiny of the Tinubu administration. Whether the National Assembly takes up the request remains uncertain, but the statement is likely to fuel further debate over governance, accountability and executive authority.
