Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has offered a humorous account of the atmosphere surrounding the wedding of Nigerian content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and social media personality Elizabeth Amadou, known as Jarvis.
Kuti described the departure from the wedding as unusually chaotic, joking that guests who arrived looking like important personalities eventually left the venue in a hurry.
“At Peller’s wedding, all of us left there as if we were thieves,” the singer said.
He attributed the unusual atmosphere partly to the large crowd and the presence of area boys around the Lagos venue.
“Nobody left the wedding like a big man,” Kuti added, describing the way guests allegedly rushed away after the event.
His remarks come amid reports that some guests at the wedding complained about incidents outside the venue.
Peller himself later disclosed that some guests had their mobile phones stolen during the celebrations, with reports indicating that suspected hoodlums targeted people around the venue.
The wedding attracted a large gathering of celebrities, entertainers, social media personalities and other public figures, making it one of the more prominent celebrity events of the year.
Kuti’s comments appear to have been made in a light-hearted recounting of the experience, although they have added to discussions surrounding security and crowd control at the high-profile ceremony.
